2017 is going to be a big year for me. After fifteen years working as a dietitian, I’m finally ready to take the step from practitioner to entrepreneur. You see, as much as I love seeing clients, I have now reached a stage in my career where I feel that I can have a more significant impact on the health of Australians by utilising my business skills than I can my clinical skills.

You see over and over again, I hear complaints from dietitians in private practice that their businesses aren’t financially viable. No-one teaches us business. In fact, the average dietitian in ‘private practice’ spends as much time marketing and doing admin as they do seeing clients, and as sole practitioners, we don’t get paid for that. But after being a sole practitioner for seven years, followed by another eight years running a small business (employing dietitians), I feel like I’ve finally cracked all the ‘tricks of the trade’ and would love to help other dietitians with their business.

“So, what’s the business I hear you ask”? Well, if you’ve been reading my articles for a while, you’ll know that I believe that there is a gap in the market for a prestige dietetics brand. People from low SES are well catered for, but those who want the best of the best, are not. But, there are some AMAZING clinical dietitians out there who could provide these more complicated clients with the solutions that they need. Which is where you come in. I’m on the hunt for dietitians in private practice who work as sole traders, have a PhD or specialist clinical skills, but are too busy and/or humble to market themselves; dietitians who would like to focus on the clinical side of practice and would love someone else to take care of their business.

How does it work? Well, the first step is to contact our receptionist on reception@nutritionplus.com.au for more information. You’ll be asked to submit a copy of your resume and answer a few simple questions about your career (as to be true to the brand, we are looking for dietitians who are the right fit). The second step is to attend one of our webinars so that you can learn a little more about the business. If you’re interested on coming on board, then we’ll ask you to complete our application process. We only take a maximum of four dietitians at a time, and our next webinar is on Thursday 9th March, so if you, or someone you know fits the bill, please contact us.

Finally, let me leave you with this quote from Rachel Jeffery, Nutrition Plus licensee with a special interest in paediatric nutrition “I decided to join Nutrition Plus because of the support delivered to me as a sole practitioner and it has definitely enabled me to provide a more professional experience to my clients”.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
