Webinar Description

This presentation will describe data investigating factors associated with enteral nutrition-associated diarrhea, including the role of enteral formulas.  We will also describe the hypothesis that FODMAP content of enteral formulas induce diarrhea and the preliminary data that have supported this hypothesis, which have led to FODMAP analysis of enteral formulas and subsequently detailed assessment of the accuracy of FODMAP analysis in these complex formulations.  Clinical relevance of data will also be discussed.

Presented by Dr Jane Muir and Dr Emma Halmos

Dr Jane Muir is currently Head of Translational Nutrition Science in the Department of Gastroenterology, Central Clinical School, Monash University. She is a trained dietitian with a PhD in biochemistry and has over 20 years experience in the area of nutrition research. Her major research focus has been on the important role of fermentable carbohydrates in the health of the gastrointestinal tract.

Dr Emma Halmos is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with extensive clinical experience and specific expertise in managing patients with gastrointestinal conditions. Dr Halmos commenced research at Monash University and her research has been instrumental in demonstrating efficacy and safety of a low FODMAP diet in the management of functional gastrointestinal symptoms and investigating the role of FODMAPs in enteral nutrition-associated diarrhea. Dr Halmos is continuing work in clinical research at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and she also works in private practice consulting patients with gastrointestinal conditions.
